Chat appearance & hours

You can make the chat widget match your brand and set the right expectations for how quickly you reply. These settings live in Settings > Chat, and the widget picks them up automatically everywhere it runs, including when embedded on your own site, so you never touch the code to restyle it.

Appearance

On the General tab you control how the widget looks:

  • Widget position: place the launcher at the bottom right or bottom left of the page.
  • Dark mode: use a dark theme for the widget, regardless of the visitor's own system setting.
  • Brand color: the color of the chat bubble launcher button.
  • Message color: the color of your message bubbles inside the chat.
  • Background image: an image that appears behind the header on the widget's home screen, for a more branded feel.

Messages

Set the words visitors see:

  • Welcome message: the greeting shown when someone opens the chat, such as "Hi there! How can we help you?".
  • Offline message: shown when you are outside your office hours, letting the visitor know you will follow up. For example, "We are currently offline. Leave a message and we will get back to you."
  • Expected reply time: sets expectations for how fast you respond. Choose a few minutes, a few hours, or within a day. This is shown to the visitor so they know what to expect.

Collecting names

The Collect name toggle asks visitors for their name before they start a conversation. Turning it on means you always know who you are talking to, which is helpful for support. Turn it off to let people chat with no friction.

Office hours

On the Office Hours tab you set when your team is available to chat.

  1. For each day of the week, turn the day on and set its start and end times (the default is 9:00 to 17:00).
  2. Set the timezone the hours are measured in.

Outside your office hours, the widget shows your offline message so visitors know you are away and will reply later, rather than expecting an instant answer. Their messages still land in your inbox for you to pick up when you are back.
