Tax & shipping fees

Tax and shipping fees are set on each product, and Paysio adds them automatically at checkout. They appear as their own lines in the order total, so customers see exactly what they are paying and why. This guide explains how to configure both, and how they combine across a multi-product cart.

Collecting tax

Tax is set per product with the Collect tax switch on the product form.

  1. Open the product and turn on Collect tax.
  2. Choose the Type:
    • Percentage: a percentage of the item's price. Enter a number like 8.5 for 8.5 percent.
    • Fixed: a flat amount charged per unit. Enter a dollar amount like 2.00.
  3. Save the product.

At checkout, tax is calculated on each taxable item and shown as a Tax line in the total. A percentage tax scales with the price and quantity. A fixed tax is charged once per unit, so two of an item with a 2.00 fixed tax adds 4.00.

Leave Collect tax off for products that are not taxed.

Shipping fees

A shipping fee works the same way, set per product with the Collect shipping fee switch.

  1. Open the product and turn on Collect shipping fee.
  2. Choose the Type:
    • Fixed: a flat shipping amount per unit.
    • Percentage: a percentage of the item's price.
  3. Save the product.

Each product carries its own shipping fee. How those fees combine when a cart has several products depends on a workspace setting, covered next.

How shipping fees combine

When a customer buys more than one product, Paysio does not blindly add up every shipping fee by default. A workspace-wide setting decides the behavior.

Go to Settings > Payments and find Stack shipping fees on multi-product carts:

  • Off (the default): a cart with several products is charged only the highest single shipping fee. This suits merchants who ship everything in one package, so the buyer is not charged shipping several times.
  • On: every product's shipping fee is added together. This suits merchants who ship items separately.

This setting applies to your whole workspace, not to individual products. Tax is never combined this way. Each taxable item is always taxed on its own.

Physical goods and fulfillment

Charging a shipping fee is separate from tracking whether an order needs to be shipped. For physical products, turn on Track shipping & fulfillment on the product form.

When on:

  • Orders containing the product are flagged as needing fulfillment, so you can see what still has to be sent. See Orders and fulfillment.
  • You can optionally enter a Weight and pick a unit (g, kg, oz, or lb). Weight is used for shipping calculations and can be left blank.

You can use these together or apart. A product can charge a shipping fee without being tracked for fulfillment, or be tracked for fulfillment without charging a fee.

Collecting a shipping address

For Paysio to know where to send an order, the checkout needs to ask for a delivery address. This is turned on where you sell, not on the product.

  • On a payment link, turn on Collect shipping address so the customer is asked for a delivery address before paying. See Payment links.
  • For storefront checkouts, the Collect shipping on storefront checkouts setting requires an address on links your store generates.

When a shipping address is collected, the customer can use the "same as billing" shortcut so they do not type it twice, and the address is saved with the order.
