Receipts and confirmations
The moment a customer pays, two things happen automatically: they see a confirmation page, and they get a receipt by email. You do not set any of this up, and both use your branding.
The confirmation page
Right after a successful payment, the customer lands on a confirmation page. It shows your logo and name, a Payment confirmed message thanking them, and a receipt card.
The receipt lists:
- The payment method, showing the card brand and the last four digits, or the bank account.
- Each item, with its quantity, any variant, and its price.
- A breakdown of subtotal, tax, shipping, and any discount (including the code that was used).
- The total.
- The date, time, and order number.
A few sections appear only when they apply:
- Ships to. The delivery address, if the order collected a shipping address.
- Additional details. The answers to any custom fields on the link.
- Subscription. For a recurring purchase, the recurring amount, how often it renews, and the next billing date.
The emailed receipt
A receipt is also emailed to the address the customer entered at checkout. The confirmation page confirms this with a Receipt sent to note showing their email. The email gives the customer a copy for their records, with no need to log in.
Custom field answers
Anything you collected with custom fields appears under Additional details, both on the confirmation page and on the payment in your dashboard. Checkbox answers show as Yes or No. See Custom checkout fields.
The portal link
At the bottom of the confirmation page is a Manage your purchases button that opens the customer portal. From there, customers can view their payment history, manage their subscriptions, and update their saved payment methods, all on their own. See The customer portal.
Where you see the same details
Everything on the customer's receipt is also on the payment's detail page in your dashboard, so you and the customer are always looking at the same record. See Transaction details.
Tip
A clear statement descriptor helps customers recognize the charge on their bank statement and reduces confusion later. Set it in Checkout options.
